Pilot sites
The C-ROADS France project is being rolled out across 4 pilot sites and 1 sub-block dedicated to car manufacturers:
- The North-East site (A-3.1 North-East)
The partners involved in this pilot site are the DIR East, SANEF and the Strasbourg Eurometropole, led by the DIR East. The DIR East has deployed its equipment on the A31, between Toul and the Luxembourg border, as well as on the A4-A35 section crossing Strasbourg. SANEF deployed its equipment on the A4 motorway between Reims, Metz and Strasbourg. A total of 52 Roadside Units (RSU) have been installed on the pilot site. The Strasbourg Eurometropole deployed the selected use cases via the COOPITS application, without any new equipment, and as a replacement for the ViaAlsace application.
Furthermore, the DIR East has tested and deployed use cases related to the processing of unexpected and dangerous events (D3 - Obstacle on the road alert; D4 - Alert stationary vehicle; D5 - Alert accident area; D11 - End of queue alert). Other use cases have been tested across the site but have not gone into production as part of C-ROADS France.

- The Centre-East site (A-3.2 Centre-East)
The partners involved in this pilot site are APRR, ASF and the DIR Centre-East, led by APRR. APRR has deployed equipment on the A43 and A48 motorways. ASF has deployed equipment on the A7, A46 and A9 motorways. Finally, the DIRCE has deployed equipment on the RN346, A43, A42, RN87 and RN481 networks. A total of 65 RSUs were installed on the pilot site.
All road operators on the pilot site transmitted information to the Nfr-ITS-S station, which in turn transmitted information to mobile phones via the smartphone application (via cellular and WiFi if available). A POC on Bluetooth communication protocols was carried out.
ITS G5 and cellular technologies were used by all operators. ASF provided services via a WiFi network at rest areas and APRR's RSU is equipped with a Bluetooth module that can be used to produce "Floating Car Data" journey times.

- The South West site (A-3.3 South West)
The partners involved in this pilot site are Bordeaux Metropolitan Area and the DIR Atlantic (DIRA), led by the DIRA.
The DIRA has deployed 10 RSUs on the Bordeaux ring road, as well as a mobile RSU.

Bordeaux Metropolitan Area has not deployed any new equipment, capitalising instead on the equipment previously installed, and updating it to C-ROADS France standards and architecture. The interface with the Nfr-ITS-S has been activated for the following use cases: GLOSA, Parking, Worksite Alerts, and partially for the Dangerous Events and On-board Signalling use cases. The DIRA developed the migration to the new national architecture.
Bordeaux Metropolitan Area also tested the COOPITS mobile application. A user acceptability study was carried out.
- The West site (A-3.4 West)
The partners involved in this pilot site are DIR West (DIRO) and COFIROUTE, led by DIRO. This pilot site also involved several related partners: the Côtes d'Armor Departmental Council (CD22), the Ille-et-Vilaine Departmental Council (CD35) and the St-Brieuc Urban Area.
The DIRO has deployed RSUs on the N176, N165 and N166 networks, and COFIROUTE on the A11 network. A total of 10 RSUs have been deployed on this site, as well as 45 OBUos (on the DIRO network).

- Car manufacturers (A-3.5 Car Manufacturers)
The industrial partners involved in C-ROADS France are Renault and PSA. Their work is a continuation of the SCOOP project: first, by taking part in the research activities (definition of use cases, specifications, developments and validations), and then by equipping a total of 6 vehicles (3 for each manufacturer) with the Vro-ITS-S technology compatible with the C-ROADS France use cases. These vehicles were not dedicated to a specific pilot site, but were to be used during the various test and validation phases, once they had been equipped at the end of 2019. Among the vehicles equipped by PSA, a prototype vehicle dedicated to the GLOSA use case was developed.
