Projects / Use Cases

Roadside units and on-board systems:

In partnership with several local authorities in Brittany and the Loire, DIR West has been involved in pre-deployment projects for collaborative intelligent transport systems since 2014. A partner in the Scoop, C-Roads and now InDiD projects, DIR West has installed 100 roadside units on part of its network, and is gradually deploying on-board systems in its patrol and intervention vehicles.

Enabling motorists to play an active role in their journeys

Eventually, DIR West will be able to use these new technologies to enhance the road information it provides to users: traffic conditions, dangers on the road, road works. These new communication means will enable road operators such as DIR West to encourage motorists to combine the car with other modes of transport.

In particular, DIR West is developing the following use cases: Temporarily slippery road (D1), Animal and people alert on the road (D2), Obstacle on the road alert (D3), Vehicle at a standstill alert (D4), Accident alert (D5), Reduced visibility alert (D6), Wrong way driving alert (D7), Unsecured blockage of a road (D8), Emergency braking alert (D10), End of queue alert (D11), In-vehicle dynamic speed limit information (C2), In-vehicle signage (Embedded VMS) (C3), Information on scheduled road works (B1), Information on a road operator’s vehicle approaching / in patrol / in intervention (B2), Information on winter maintenance operations (B3), Information on extreme weather conditions (E6).

New use cases will be developed by the end of 2023: Information on parking lots, their availability and related services (F1), dynamic lane management – reserved lanes (H4), etc.
