Brittany Region

Presentation
The Brittany Region is a local authority covering an area with a population of 3.3 million inhabitants. It has four main areas of responsibility: economic development, initial and continuing training for young people and adults, regional planning and the environment, and transport. With the aim of improving the quality of life in the region, it is also heavily involved in culture, sport and regional languages.

Brittany manages inter-urban public transport lines. ITS-C can help to improve the performance of buses, whether in terms of journey times or safety, by transmitting information on traffic conditions directly from the road operator to the bus driver. This is why the Brittany Region has been involved alongside DIRO in pre-deployment projects for collaborative intelligent transport systems (STI-C) since 2014. A partner in the Scoop project within ITS-Bretagne, the Brittany Region is involved in the C-Roads and currently InDiD projects via collaboration agreements.

Timeline
In this context, the Brittany Region and DIRO plan to test the first services for bus drivers in 2023. In addition, at the same time, still in collaboration with DIRO, the first messages promoting intermodality on the approach to Rennes or St Brieuc, for example, could be sent to users via the “on-board VMS”.
