Transpolis

Presentation
Transpolis is an automotive test centre with a unique infrastructure for testing connected and automated vehicles in safe, real-life conditions. With a 30-hectare site comprising around 40 buildings and more than 60 connectivity points, the 4 districts, boulevard and ring road represent different scenarios for carrying out all types of tests.
A 5G pilot site since 2018, Transpolis has hosted numerous campaigns to test the functionality and performance of C-ITS services.
Infrastructures dedicated to vehicle connectivity:
- Short distance (ITS-G5 / C-V2X): OBU, RSU and intersections with connected traffic lights.
- Long distance (4G/5G): 5G tower (MEC on demand), 5G modules, etc.
Projects / Use Cases
Participation in a number of collaborative projects and working groups, including:
- C-ROADS: pilot site for the GLOSA use case, hosting test campaigns for the deployment of services (e.g. on-board variable message signs, on-lane operators).
- PRISSMA: validation and approval method for automated vehicles incorporating artificial intelligence. Study of the cybersecurity of connected systems.
- Connectivity workgroup of the Directorate-General for Infrastructure, Transport and Mobility: participation in defining priority connectivity requirements to automate road vehicles.
A wide range of use cases can be tested at Transpolis, including:
Functional tests:
- Navigation assistance: GLOSA, information message for vehicles, alerts of work in progress on the road, etc.
- Cooperative driving: vehicle priority at intersections, collision risk warning (lateral or longitudinal), detection of vulnerable road users, etc.
- Synchronised driving: V2X as a perception tool acting directly on vehicle dynamics.
Performance tests:
- Signal quality (LOS / NLOS scenarios, interference, jamming) and their impact on functional scenarios.
