Presentation

The Department of Côtes D'Armor, located between land and sea, manages a road network of around 4600 km, marked in the north by the N12, along which a strong economic fabric has developed.

The strong appeal of the region to tourists generates very marked fluctuations in traffic between the summer and the rest of the year, particularly along the coast. Consequently, appropriate infrastructure and facilities need to be provided.

As a vehicle for economic development and networking, roads have also been seen as a potential source of innovation. The "Road of the Future" is an example that has led to developments in road equipment (e.g. a warning system for wrong-way traffic on 2x2 lanes).

It is in this context and mindset that the Department joined the SCOOP project, and is continuing its involvement in C-Roads and InDiD through collaboration agreements. It is vital for road operators to be able to anticipate the vehicles of the future and, more broadly, the mobility of the future.

Projects / Use Cases

Participation in SCALE:

Since 2014, the Côtes-d’Azur Department has been actively involved in the development and deployment of C-ITS through its participation in the SCOOP project and subsequently the INDID project. Consequently, the CD22 has installed around ten roadside units across its network and has deployed in-vehicle systems in three of its patrol and emergency response vehicles.

In the SCALE project, the Department will outfit 10 operational OBUo-equipped vehicles with Vg2V technology, and three new roadside units will be installed on the D700 road linking the N12 at St Brieuc with the N164 at Loudéac.

The mature use cases deployed will be:

  • Warning – animal and pedestrian on the road (D2)
  • Warning – obstacle on the road (D3)
  • Warning – accident (D5),
  • Warning – Unmanaged obstruction (D8),
  • Information on the position of a road authority vehicle that is approaching, on patrol or responding to an incident (B2).
  • Warning – VH priority vehicle for snow clearance/salting (B3)

The Department will also participate in the development of the new priority use case for emergency vehicles at traffic light intersections, via SDIS 22.

Eventually, in collaboration with DIRO, CD22 will be able to use these new technologies to enhance the road information it provides to users: traffic conditions, road hazards and roadworks.
