DIR Mediterranean

Presentation

The Interdepartmental Road Directorate (DIR) Mediterranean is a decentralized service of the Ministry of Transport which currently operates, maintains and upgrades nearly 670 km of national roads and non-concession motorways across several departments (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Gard, Var, Vaucluse, Hérault and Lozère).

DIRMed has nearly 500 agents who perform operational duties (ensuring the network is viable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including managing incidents and providing road information), maintenance duties (routine maintenance, inspection of structures and repairs) and road engineering duties (development and modernisation of the existing network).

Projects / Use Cases

Participation in InDiD: as part of the InDiD project, DIRMed has acquired 17 Road-Side Units and 9 OBUos in order to trial C-ITS use cases relating to road safety (roadworks, accidents, stationary or broken-down vehicles, people or animals on the road, obstacles, vehicles travelling in the wrong direction and reduced visibility).

Participation in SCALE: the SCALE project will enable DIRMed to equip more OBUo vehicles, with a view to deploying them nationwide, and to test additional use cases relating to the safety of field staff when approaching a dangerous vehicle.
