On October 19 and 20, the Almeida Garrett Library in Porto hosted the City Forum & Urban C-ITS Contest, organized by Armis in partnership with the City of Porto, IMT, TIS, and supported by the European Commission. These events brought together European leaders involved in the C-Roads European platform and highlighted cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) in urban environments.
During the forum on October 19, participants discussed best practices in urban C-ITS. Several topics were covered, including the impact of C-ITS on traffic management and road user perception. This event allowed European cities to present their projects and foster collaboration.
October 20 marked the award ceremony of the Urban C-ITS contest, aimed at promoting urban C-ITS deployments in Europe.
Among the awarded cities…
Paris and ATC France were honored with the “Leader in Improving Urban Attractiveness and Environmental Quality” award.
This award recognizes their commitment to using C-ITS to facilitate data exchange between urban management systems, pedestrians, and vehicles, contributing to the improvement of urban attractiveness and environmental quality. Paris2Connect serves as both a test bed and a laboratory for C-ITS, emphasizing the evaluation of uses and the importance of sociological approaches beyond technical aspects. It is important to note that Paris is currently in a pre-operational phase, making Paris2Connect a continuous testing ground.
Bordeaux city/metropolis was distinguished by winning the “Leader in Geographical Coverage” award.
This award highlights Bordeaux city/metropolis’s commitment to developing cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) and its contribution to improving urban attractiveness and environmental quality.
During the presentations of the awarded cities, Bordeaux, as a pioneer in C-ITS, demonstrated how these technologies continue to shape the future of our cities. With its geographical coverage, Bordeaux positions itself as a model of success in the deployment and expansion of C-ITS in Europe, alongside other cities such as Helmond and Salzburg. The award ceremony marked a significant milestone in urban development and intelligent transport, recognizing the remarkable efforts of cities in implementing these initiatives. The winning cities not only received awards, but their representatives also shared their visions of connected intelligent transport systems (C-ITS), contributing to stimulating discussions on the progress of urban C-ITS at the European Union level.

About Coopits:
Coopits is a free road information application developed as part of partnership projects between various road information stakeholders.
It aims to integrate into the services offered by Bison Futé.
It falls within the framework of cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS). C-ITS refers to the exchange of information between infrastructure and vehicles, and between vehicles.
The application allows you to receive real-time traffic information from road managers to assist with driving.
It provides information such as the locations and availability of parking spaces or the optimal speed to reach a traffic light when it turns green.
Available on Android, it can overlay a pre-installed navigator or operate independently.
It is also available in beta testing on iOS but operates independently only. Designed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion as part of partnership projects funded 50% by the European Commission, it promotes eco-driving by avoiding waiting at traffic lights and indicating lanes reserved for carpooling or public transport.
Its ergonomics have been optimized to avoid causing distraction when displaying information.
It is supported by the Directorate of Road Safety due to its significant contributions to road safety.
